<description><![CDATA[<img src="/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/164_121085.jpg" alt="Janice Diane Novak" />Janice “Diane” Novak, 74, of La Porte, passed away peacefully at 9:12 a.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2012 in IU Health La Porte Hospital.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory is caring for the arrangements.

She was born October 3, 1937 in Valparaiso, IN to John D. and Margaret (Cone) Nichols, Sr.
Mrs. Novak graduated for Isaac C. Elston High School in 1956. She worked as a bus driver for Michigan City Area Schools for 12 years until her retirement in 1992. Diane had attended Friendship Baptist Church in La Porte. She loved to travel and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

On September 15, 1956 in Michigan City, IN, she married Richard Dean Novak. He preceded her in death on February 5, 2009.

Survivors include six children, Kathy Dudley, Stephen (Sheli) Novak and Daniel Novak, all of La Porte, Lenny (Bebo) Novak of Naperville, IL, Marianne Harmon of Glenwood, IL and Paul (Kelly) Novak of La Porte; sixteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cynthia vonBorstel of Vancover, WA and Nancy (Robert) Hoeppner of Warsaw, IN; one brother, John (Ruth) Nichols, Jr. of Umatilla, OR.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two grandsons, Kenneth and Jerry Novak.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 4 p.m., Monday, May 21, 2012 at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Road, La Porte (219) 362-3100 with Pastor Randy Cook officiating. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home. Cremation will take place and private burial of ashes will be held at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City.

<title>James W. Reynolds [&nbsp; - 05/13/2012] </title>

<description><![CDATA[<img src="/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/164_120918.jpg" alt="James W. Reynolds" />James W. Reynolds, 88, of La Porte, passed away peacefully at 3:24 a.m., Sunday, May 13, 2012 at Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital.

He was born May 19, 1923 in Waterville, ME, to James W. and Lillian M. (Walton) Reynolds, Sr.

Mr. Reynolds served in WWII from 1945 – 1946 in the Philippines and Japan.  He was a member of the 1st Cavalry 7th Regiment, Medical Detachment and served as an ambulance driver.  After the war, he returned to his home state of Maine.  In 1947 he moved to La Porte where he met his wife of 62 years.  They would then move to Maine and on to Hopkinton, MA.  Mr. Reynolds loved the outdoors.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.  He was a charter member of the New England Camping Association  and the Framingham Sportsman Association.  James was also an active member of Post 929 VFW in Framingham, MA, where he served through the chairs.  He remained a member at large for many years.  Mr. Reynolds retired from Sears in Natick, MA in 1973 moving to Morriston, FL where he remained for 32 years.  Mr. Reynolds was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Williston, FL, where he was an active member of the Methodist Men.
 
On August 17, 1949, he married Constance N. Sayles of La Porte, who survives.

Mr. Reynolds leaves behind one son, James of Pahrump, NV; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; two brothers, Harley Reynolds of Elmhurst, IL and Lawrence of Bath, ME.

Preceding in death were his parents; two daughters, Gloria and Joan; and two brothers, Gene and Cremation will take place.  A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 19, 2012 in the Rolling Prairie Cemetery, with Rev. Freeman Schrock officiating.  Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, 247 W. <description><![CDATA[<img src="/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/164_120902.jpg" alt="Eugene Noble" />Eugene Noble, 67, of La Porte, IN., passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Indiana University Health, La Porte Hospital.

He was born January 14, 1945 in Jackson, KY to Troy Fugate and Virgie (Roberts) Marshall.

Eugene lived in La Porte most of his life and was a member of the American Legion Post #83, La Porte. He was a member of Rolling Prairie Free Will Baptist Church. He loved to travel, read books, and was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. Eugene especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Eugene will be greatly missed by family and friends.

On October 5, 1974 in La Porte County, he married Charlotte (Myers) Noble, who survives.

Also surviving are seven children, Jeff Campbell of La Porte, IN; Tommy Campbell of Walkerton, IN; David (Denise) Campbell of Grovertown, IN; Gary (Erlyn) Campbell of La Porte, IN; Jason Noble of Tennessee; Tina Wlenlinski of Plymouth, IN; and Susan Campbell of La Porte, IN. One sister, Susan Senese of California; one brother Jim Marshall of Kentucky. Eighteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Proceeded in death by his parents, two brothers and one daughter.

A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Road, La Porte, 
219-362-3100 with Pastor Nathan Wireman and Pastor Mike Noble officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 -8 p.m., Tuesday, May 15, 2012 and from 10 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date in Hanna Cemetery, Hanna, IN.

He was born June 1, 1928 in La Porte, IN to Alfred Louis and Genevieve (Cizewski) Hertzberg.

Mr. Hertzberg worked for Pepsi as a driver and manager of the Michigan City plant and for Townden Publishing. He was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in La Porte and a former member of the La Porte Jaycees. Don loved people and had “the gift of gab”. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. 

On September 5, 1981 in Charleston, S.C., he married Doris A. Upchurch, who survives.

Survivors include six children, David Hertzberg of Miami, FL, Daniel Hertzberg of Gainesville, FL, Donald A. (Rita) Hertzberg, Jr. of La Porte, Deidre (Robert) Crail of Rolling Prairie, Dennis (Ann) Hertzberg of Lake Toxaway, N.C., and Diane Schultz of Rolling Prairie; ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mary Hertzberg of La Porte.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Doreen P. Hertzberg and one brother, James W. Hertzberg.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, 247 W. Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, La Porte is caring for the arrangements.

She was born November 18, 1922, in Clark County, IL, to Ralph and Nora (Biggs) Fain.

Audrey was a homemaker who lovingly cared for her family and home.  She attended Casey High School, Casey, IL, and was an active member of the First Church of God, La Porte.  Audrey was always helping behind the scenes at many church functions and taught Sunday school.  She enjoyed bible study, sewing and gardening.  Audrey shared her love with a lot of people and had a special place in her heart for children. 

On March 29, 1941, in St. Charles, Missouri, she married Victor P. Briggs, who preceded her in death January 7, 2007.

Also preceding in death were her parents; stillborn child, Donna; and brother Elda Fain.

Surviving are her six children; Wanda (J. William) Boggs of Galien, MI, Don Briggs of La Porte, Norma (Bob) Marquardt of Fairmont, WV, Randy (Dianne) Briggs of Anderson, IN, Marty Briggs of Mill Creek and Kent Briggs of Marion, IN; two specially fond nieces, Debra (Brian) Sauers and Delynn (Tom) Ervin; two sisters, Pearl Beasley of Charleston, IL, Mary Briggs of La Porte; two brothers, Joe (Sharon) Fain of Mill Creek and Wendell (Jean) Fain of La Porte; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. 

A funeral will be held at 4:30 p.m., Monday, May 14, 2012 at the First Church of God, 2020 E. Lincolnway, La Porte with several members of the pastoral staff officiating.  Visitation and viewing from 4 – 7 p.m., Sunday, May 13, 2012 at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte and from 3 p.m. to the time of service Monday at the church.  Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday May 15, 2012 in Oak Grove Cemetery, 600 East and 50 North, Mill Creek, IN.

He was born on December 8, 1963 in Michigan City to Francis Baker and Lucille (Klettke) Bruce.

Robert enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching football. He loved spending time with his family and was a good cook.  He was a loving and caring, father, brother, and son who will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his parents, James and Lucille Bruce of Michigan City; one daughter, Felicia Baker of Michigan City; two sisters, Cheryl (Rod) Comer, of Michigan City and Samantha (Marshall) Ennis, of La Porte; five brothers, Donald Baker, James III (Barbara) Bruce, Scott Bruce, Charles (Stephanie) Bruce, and Jonathan (Mary) Bruce, all of Michigan City. He is also survived by two special aunts, Agnes Clemons and Rose Isabell and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Baker, one son Robert James Baker, Jr., one brother Paul O. Klettke, and his special aunt Sandy Eldridge.

A funeral celebrating his life will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Lakeview Funeral Home &amp; Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Road, La Porte, IN. (219)362-3100 with Pastor Roderick Hoffman officiating.  Visitation and viewing will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. <description><![CDATA[<img src="/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/164_120548.jpg" alt="Betty Goetz" />Betty Ruth Goetz, 91, of Michigan City, IN. passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 5, 2012, under hospice care at St. Anthony’s Hospital.

She was born January 10, 1921 in Tiptonville, Tennessee to Marshall and Anna Nobles.

She worked as a checker at the National Tea store and at Reese’s Bakery both in Miller, Indiana. Betty was a very sweet and kind person. She once worked as a volunteer at Methodist Hospital in Gary, IN.  After her husband retired from the Budd Company in 1980 they moved to Crescent City, Florida. Upon her husband’s death in 1999 she moved to Michigan City. Betty painted in oils and was a member of the Chesterton Art League.  Betty was a good golfer, playing here in Indiana at Cressmoor Country Club, Indian Ridge Golf Club, and at the Live Oak course in Fruitland, Florida. She also enjoyed playing pinnocle at the local senior center. 

She is survived by her son Hugh B. Goetz of Michigan City.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Hugh Bright Goetz, her parents and nine brothers and sisters.
