Dennie Douglas Staples
Sept. 20, 1949 - Sept. 4 2009
Introduced to this world in Gary, Indiana, by Orena Joy and (late) Barney, he departed nearly 60 years later battling stroke. A passionate man, he helped raise his three siblings: Tommy, Ethel (Bennett), Cathy (McCoy); while entertaining northern Indiana with his rock music and making life-long friends.
After graduation from Lew Wallace, he enlisted into the Marines serving a tour in Vietnam, earning three Purple-Hearts and Navy Commendation Medal. He re-located to Nashville in 1970 with first-wife Joan continuing his music aspirations and raising a family with eldest daughter Jessica. Returning to Indiana in 1980, playing punk music to local crowds, he fell for his second-wife Jackie. They raised two children, Derek and Jennifer, in Indiana and Kentucky, settling in LaPorte in 1992.
He retired shortly after due to injuries sustained in Vietnam. Becoming a devout Cubs fan and his childrens mentor, friend, and biggest fan. He was gifted two wonderful grandsons, Cameron McMillan and Jeffrey Lopez-Staples. Our eternal source of truthful advice, laughter, and mild frustration. E Pluribus Funk
